Everything here describes the current build. If something below does not
match what you see on your phone, that is worth telling us about.
The game itself
What do I need to play it?
An Android phone. Neon Bastion is built for Android only — there is no iPhone
version and no desktop version. It plays in portrait, with touch controls, and it is
designed for one hand.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. The game plays entirely offline. It has no account system, no sign-in, no cloud
save and no server of ours to talk to.
Is there anything to buy?
No. There is no advertising, no in-app purchase and no currency sold for money.
Everything in the game is earned by playing it.
How do I get it?
It is not publicly released yet. It is in testing on Google Play, and the
beta page has the three steps to join. There is no download on
this site and no APK to sideload; please do not install a copy from anywhere else.
Can I pause in the middle of a run?
Yes. Hold, at the top of the combat screen, freezes the run and writes
it to disk; Resume on the main menu picks it up again. Taking a call or
switching apps does the same thing by itself, so a run is not lost because the phone
interrupted it. Only one run is held at a time.
I am stuck on a stage.
That is often the design rather than a wall. Later Journey stages expect permanent
growth behind them — Memories, Research, shards in the Forge, and eventually Rebirth
— rather than one perfect run with a fresh profile. If a stage feels impossible,
earlier stages and Elite re-runs are the intended way to come back stronger. If it still
feels wrong, tell us which stage and what you tried; during testing that is exactly the
feedback we need.
The game runs hot, or the frame rate drops.
In Settings there is a reduced effects option and a
battery saver option; both are also reachable from the Hold screen during
a run, so you can change them without leaving the stage. Music and effects volume are
separate sliders, and screen static has its own. If you find a specific moment that heats
the phone or stutters, please say which skill was firing — that is much more useful
to us than a general report.
Your progress
Where is my progress saved?
On your own phone, in the app's own storage. Nothing is uploaded. The game also keeps a
known-good backup locally so a save can be restored after an interrupted write. If you have
also played a browser build, that save is separate and the two do not sync.
How do I back up my progress, or move it to another phone?
Through a save code, in Settings → Save data:
- Export progress on the old install. The code appears in the box and
is copied to your clipboard. Paste it somewhere outside the game — a note, a
message to yourself, a file — and keep it until the new install is working.
- Paste code on the new install, or paste the code into the box
yourself, then Check import. The game tells you what the code
contains before anything is changed.
- Replace local progress to apply it. A pre-import backup of what was
there is kept, and Review pre-import backup brings it back up.
Three things to know before you do it:
- The code carries earned skills, research, shards and mastery. It does
not carry a held run, your skill-pool switches or your settings.
- Finish or abandon a held run first; the import is refused while one exists.
- Export from the version you are importing into. A newer build can read an
older code, but an older build cannot read a newer one.
Importing replaces the progress on that device. There is no way for us to recover a save
you overwrote, because we never had a copy of it.
How do I reset my progress?
Settings → Advanced… → Hard reset, then press the button
again to confirm. It forgets everything: memories, knowledge, rebirths, stages, shards, the
skill pool and your settings. There is no undo, so export a code first if there is any
chance you want it back.
To remove the files instead of resetting inside the game, clear the app's storage in
Android settings, or uninstall the app. The your data page covers
every route, including deleting support emails you have sent us.
Can you restore a save I lost?
No, and that is not a policy — it is the consequence of the game never sending
your progress anywhere. The only copies that exist are on your device and in any save code
you exported yourself.
Reporting a problem
How do I report a bug?
Email floridaairborne@gmail.com, or post
it in the tester group if you joined one. You do not have to write a report; one honest
message is plenty. What actually helps us reproduce it:
- Your phone model and roughly how old it is.
- What you were doing — which screen, or which stage and wave.
- Which skills were equipped, if it happened during combat.
- What you expected instead of what happened.
- A screenshot, if the problem is something you can see.
For crashes or lost progress, say roughly what you were doing when it happened, and
whether the run was held at the time.
Something in the menus makes no sense.
Tell us. The Memory map, the Forge and the blessing offers are the three places testers
get lost most, and confusion is a bug like any other. Say what you expected a button to do.
What about privacy and my data?
The privacy policy is the full answer and
your data is the practical one. In short: the game stores your
progress on your device, sends none of it to us, and the only thing we ever hold is an
email you chose to send.
